About the Opportunity

Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) is currently seeking a qualified Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse or Social Worker to join their team in Kununurra, WA, as Social and Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator.

Reporting to the Manager of Health Services and Programsyou will be leading a unit of approximately 4 staff, supervising the delivery of high quality, evidence-based Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) programs and services, as well as managing your own case load of clients.

More specifically, you will be:

  • Undertaking a general and complex caseload, involving assessment, therapeutic counselling and the development of care plans with OVAHS GP's.
  • Providing clinical leadership in mental health for OVAHS team members and GPs;
  • Delivering mental health education sessions and promotional activities to both individuals and groups;
  • Developing effective working relationships with clients, OVAHS staff, and other government and non-government agencies;
  • Collecting data and providing regular reports to a range of funding sources and other stakeholders; and
  • Working closely with families in a supportive and culturally appropriate manner, to ensure improved outcomes for clients.

About You

To be considered for this position you will be recognised by AHPRA as a Psychologist or Registered Nurse (Mental Health Practitioner); or hold a relevant qualification in Social Work and be eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.

OVAHS is looking for someone with the strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills necessary to develop therapeutic relationships with clients, including those with complex needs and from varying social and cultural backgrounds. You will be committed to evidence-based practice and be able to promote mental health and wellbeing that for with the needs of individuals, groups, and the local community.

Any experience working constructively with Indigenous people or communities will be highly regarded, but is not essential provided you have the resilience necessary to work in remote locations, and can demonstrate an understanding of the issues faced by Aboriginal people in rural and remote areas.

You will need to be able to work both collaboratively, as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as autonomously, without supervision. You will have the strong computer proficiency required to record client notes, collect data and complete reports for management.

Please note: The successful candidate will require a current 'C' class drivers licence, and either hold or be willing to obtain National Police Clearance and Working with Children clearance prior to commencement.
